Glory

10 Feb

Leviticus 8:23-24 – And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

The Glory of the Lord

In Leviticus 8 Moses and Aaron and his sons are participating in Sacrifices that consecrate them and the people before the Lord.  When all the sacrifices are finished, Moses and Aaron go into the tabernacle to finish the procedure.  They come out and the Glory of the LORD shows up to the people, fire from God Consumes the offering on the altar and the people are amazed by God’s Glory, his presence, and even his power (the fire).

The only logical reaction to that display of God’s glory is to fall on your face and honor him.  To keep that moment sacred, to keep it real.  I’ve experienced times in God’s presence where all I could do is bow, and be still and just rest in his presence.  Sometimes I think God wants to remind us to be amazed by his goodness, by his power, by his love, and when he shows up we need to stop and take the time to be still and know that he is God.

Imposter Glory – Nadab and Abihu

In the next chapter however, we see that two of Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu, didn’t want to stop and wait.  Instead they tried to manufacture an experience that would bring about God’s glory, and God responds immediately by destroying them.  God’s glory is not something that we can command, and his presence is not something that we should just expect to be able to manufacture in our church gatherings.  God’s glory will show up, but we can’t command it.  We can only prepare our heart for his glory.  And we can be preparing our hearts everyday, and some days we will feel very near to God.  And some days we may not, but that should not change the status of our hearts.

Don’t try to manufacture the presence of God.  God takes that offense very serious, instead rennovate your heart to be ready for when God’s presence is revealed.

Chew on This for the weekend

12 Apr

I was perusing the blog-o-verse today and I came across this thought from Peter Blue, who is a worship leader in Canvas and serves at Cedar Park.  Peter was the worship leader in youth group when I was growing up and he was always a huge encouragement in my life, as well as someone who always made me think.  Today he made me think again.

What good is initial physical evidence if there isn’t any other evidence to follow? “ If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” What a mighty percussion section we have become.

Chew on that for the weekend.  And read the rest of the post here.

David Crowder Band – O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing

1 Oct

So I have been listening to DCB- Remedy a lot since I got it, and I am really diggin’ “O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing”. This is one of the hymns that I really love. But I love that the chorus that they added to the song.

I love hymns, and I love when groups like DCB cover hymns and make them more modern, and expand on them. I think it just really gives depth to the worship service. And I hope that worship bands continue to revitalize the hymns because they really are spectacular pieces of theology and worship.

David Crowder Band – Remedy – review

27 Sep

This week I promptly picked up the latest offering for David Crowder Band – Remedy. I’ve spend a few days listening to it, and I like it. This is a much more straightforward album than A Collission. The theme of Remedy seems to be saying that Jesus wants to heal us and the world around us. I don’t have a favorite song just yet, but it is good, and I would recommend you go pick it up.
