About

Hi! I’m Jason. Thank you for clicking on this about page.

I grew up in the Seattle area. I have strong opinions about what makes a good Teriyaki restaurant. I also think the 90’s were the peak years for music. I always loved making people laugh. When I was little, the adults in my life loved my impression of Dana Carvey’s impression of George H. W. Bush and my Steve Urkel impression.

I grew up going to church, and we had a drama team. I realized that I loved the improv games and writing comedic sketches. I also learned to play guitar to try to impress girls. That didn’t work, but I was in a Christian rock band for many years.

I went to college and studied the Bible. After graduating, I started working as a youth pastor and married my high school sweetheart, Kathy. We have two awesome kids, Judah and Jocelyn.

I have always loved to laugh and make other people laugh. When I was working on my M.A. in Theology and Culture, I tried out my first open mic at a comedy club in Seattle called Giggles. It was so much fun that I needed to go back. I also decided that my M.A. thesis would be focused on humor as a truth-telling device. I spent several years doing comedy, but then life got crazy busy, and I retired from comedy, leaving the Seattle comedy scene speechless. No one talked to me about it, so I can only assume they were shocked by my departure.

I still enjoyed and studied comedy. As a pastor, I often used humor in my messages and saw how it can support community. So I went back to school to get my Doctor of Ministry degree, and my dissertation was about comedy and community building.

In 2023, I felt the need to get back out into comedy, and I signed up for a comedy class to get to know some other folks, and I have not looked back. Much of my material focuses on family experiences and the struggles of being a middle-aged white guy.
