I graduated from the fine Kirkland institution known as Lake Washington High School. Yes, THE Lake Washington High School. Yes, THE home of the Purple Kangaroos. We were pretty awesome too.
In 1999 I was senior class president. I kind of ran on a whim but I had a great time that year, and I learned a lot about leadership, where I needed to grow. That year was probably one of my top 5 life shaping experiences.
I can’t believe that it has been 10 years already. I also can’t believe that no one told me when I was running that Senior Class President was kind of responsible for making sure that reunions happened. Now I’m not going to try to do this thing by myself, but it’s kind of crazy how my past will always be tied to my future in this way. I will always be challenged to remember where I came from, the relationships that I had in High School, the things that were awesome and the things that really sucked. I get to relive all of those things every 10 years.
And I’m incredibly grateful. I never want to be someone who forget where they came from. I do however have the tendency to not call old friends, to forget about parties, to be absent for things that might make me uncomfortable in anyway. But now this is something that keeps me inline with my past, and I get to see where I’ve grown, how other people have grown. It’s very exciting.
Reunions are also great because they give you one more chance to say the things that were left unspoken, to make up for hurt feelings, and to rekindle friendships that once meant so much to you. I can’t wait.
