Bucket List Review

Last night kathy and I rented the bucket list. The premise of the movie is inspiring. Two people facing death decide to do an entire list of amazing things together. Before they kick the bucket. Having read In a Pit with a Lion, bucket list is right in line with that book.

The movie itself wasn’t as good as the story could have been. Wasn’t too impressed with jack Nicholson who has really been the same character for the past decade. Morgan freeman was great though.

Those are my thoughts.

Youth Leaders Meeting = Awesomeness

I know what you are thinking, how could any meeting = awesomeness.  Well I will tell you.  First of all the acutal meeting was brief.  Which is key to awesome meetings.  Second, we allowed for people to hangout and have fun together.

I’m going to be really honest right now, I have not felt that way after a youth leaders meeting in a long time.  The last time I felt like this was when I was interning with Jay Smith and Cedar Park.  Our youth leaders meeting were often the most fun part of being in youth ministry, because we all loved being together.

I hope that our meetings can continue to have that vibe where we want to get the meeting out of the way so relationships can be built.  I think it’s important that the team that you work with likes each other.

I was super encouraged by this meeting because if our team continues to build relationships and love for each other, then we will be more willing to charge hell with a water pistol together, because we’ll do it together.

Genesis 38

so this Sunday we are talking about one of the weirdest chapters in the entire bible. Judah and Tamar, what a messed up story, and yet through it all God’s plan for the redemption of the world moved forward. Jesus was born centuries later from this point, but this odd and disturbingly human story was the catalyst.

Wow, even when we don’t know what’s going ok in our lives god is still orchestrating the details of our lives. It’s stories like this make me want to be a Calvinist, because it shows how sovereign God really is. But well I haven’t made this jump yet.

Beatles and Jesus

I read this interesting article over at Think Christian about John Lennon and Christianity.  I left a comment in their discussion too.  I have felt for a long time that one of the biggest mistakes the church made during the 20th Century was rejecting Rock ‘n Roll.  And I think the worship wars are a symptom of that mistake.  That thinking is hurting the church in huge ways.

Whether or not the Beatle’s fully understood the teachings of Christ or not is inconsequential because in rejecting the people who like Rock ‘n Roll we were not obeying the teachings of Christ either.

Ezekiel – God’s Hand Was On Him

I was reading this evening from Ezekiel.  I just started going through this book and in a couple of passages, it says, The Hand of God Was On Him.  How cool is that.  If you know that Hand of God is on you, what can’t you do?  If you know the Hand of God is on you, that’s the greatest strength, grace and passion that you could ever experience.  I pray that I would be able to live in such a way that the Hand of God is always on me.

Also I noticed that when Ezekiel was in God’s presence he was face down, prostrate before the LORD.  And it says, the Spirit Picked him up.  It made me think that perhaps God wants us on our feet when he’s talking to us, so that we can be ready to move as he leads us.

Man I love Ezekiel.  Such a powerful book.  God does some crazy stuff in this book, And Ezekiel could always know that God’s hand was on him.  Awesome.
